Fish Report 5/25/2008
Early in the week we cheated the weatherman out of some cancelations; got some days in that seemed iffy. At that point we were still scratching along with bass/tog/bass catches. Light rails - enjoyable.

Doubt I ever saw water this chilly in mid-May before. Checked the buoy Saturday morning;

Interesting start to the sea bass season. Hasn't been the jumbo front runners I have always seen come in first. Instead, a decidedly mixed run of sizes.

A rare opportunity..
The first deployment of the NYCTA rail cars is scheduled for Tuesday May 13th.
Reef building is not something easily scheduled. You haven't really met Mr. Murphy 'till you've tried to build marine reef..
Fish Report 5/4/2008
Thursday; nice bass and tog mix, Friday almost all tog, Saturday mostly bass, Sunday a mix of bass and tog.
Transition.
Fish Report 4/27/2008
Sunday's weather forecast of N 10 - 15 didn't quite pan out.
Brand new gigantic flag stretched taut by an ENE wind. Doesn't get worse than that. At least for 25+ knots
Fish Report 4/21/2008
Arrived back at the dock early in the beginning of the week. Decent fishing.
Wednesday's action met the highest of expectations. Growing weary of huge stacks of tags to fill out; at first we only tagged tog of 16 inches or better. Then decided 18 was the magic number - then 20.
Fish Report 4/13/2008
Nicked a few days out of it. Tight fog Thursday and Friday; go slow and make a lot of noise. As often happens, it took a big wind to push the stalled front out; cancelling Saturday.
I'm opening up the book for next week, Wednesday Thru Sunday, April 16th through the 20th and still have space for Monday the 14th.
Fish Report 4/8/2008
Weather's slapping me around as if I'd stepped into a mixed-martial arts ring..
Rather just go fishing!
And will. Opening the 10th through the 14th - Thursday to Monday, April '08.
Saturday's weather doesn't look too sporty but south winds seem less predictable.
Fish Report 4/4/2008
The weatherman has changed his mind about Sunday. If he's right, the forecasted NE 10 - 15 could make a fine day. Monday might play too.
We'll try it - April 6th and 7th.
Fish Report 3/31/2008
Announcing trips to good weather works better when I wait for the forecast to firm up. Figured with all the wind early last week we'd get a break, so risked scheduling out in front of the weatherman.
Fish Report 3/23/2008
Only fished 2 out of the 5 days. Friday's 20 to 30 knots of WNW wind had some put off, but we snuck a day out of it. A really good day. One stop shopping again. I'm pretty sure I can count the tog trips on one hand that I didn't have to move - nice when it happens. 67 tags and a rail limit..
Fish Report 3/16/2008
Fishing's pretty good, at least if you enjoy toggin'. Wednesday and Friday we had good numbers of fish and plenty of tagging - 60 tags on Friday in fact. Moving around, finding a few that would bite. It was enjoyable.
Fish Report 3/11/2008
Had a couple nice days on the tog. The shake-down last Thursday and again Monday all were limited who wanted to be. Nice fish by the rail ~ swimming away. Things as they should be. Pretty steady.
Fish Report 3/6/2008
There wasn't any deep-winter toggin' for the Morning Star this year.
As in fishing, a double anchor set takes a while: get over the structure just right. Triple anchoring seems to take forever.
Fish Report 2/5/2008
Surgery on my right shoulder has taken me out of the deep-winter tog fishery. Hopefully I'll be back in it by March.
We are booking spots for May through November's fishing and will announce winter (spring?!) tog trips via the 'fish report'.

Fish Report 12/2/2007
Couple tog trips ~ 120 some tags by the rail. Lot of fun.
Last day of November, Friday, was a sea bass trip. It was also the last day of toggin' for '07 and farewell to the 5 fish tog limit. Sea bass memory maker? Nah. Dagoned tog bit like I've rarely seen though. Very rarely.
Fish Report 11/25/2007
If the water temps fell for the next month like they have the last few weeks we'd soon be icebound north of Cape Hatteras.
Tuesday we had the first few spiny dog sharks come over the rail. Wednesday.. Dogged up! They pushed us off a couple spots.
Fish Report 11/18/2007
Veterans Day. Splendid. Worked for 'em at first, moved a couple times ~ picking away. Decent start. Good weather.
Set up again. 'Bout an hour later I told my deckhands that this was what fall fishing should be like.
