Fishing's pretty good, at least if you enjoy toggin'. Wednesday and Friday we had good numbers of fish and plenty of tagging - 60 tags on Friday in fact. Moving around, finding a few that would bite. It was enjoyable.

Had a couple nice days on the tog. The shake-down last Thursday and again Monday all were limited who wanted to be. Nice fish by the rail ~ swimming away. Things as they should be. Pretty steady.

There wasn't any deep-winter toggin' for the Morning Star this year.

As in fishing, a double anchor set takes a while: get over the structure just right. Triple anchoring seems to take forever.

Surgery on my right shoulder has taken me out of the deep-winter tog fishery. Hopefully I'll be back in it by March.

Couple tog trips ~ 120 some tags by the rail. Lot of fun.

Last day of November, Friday, was a sea bass trip. It was also the last day of toggin' for '07 and farewell to the 5 fish tog limit. Sea bass memory maker? Nah. Dagoned tog bit like I've rarely seen though. Very rarely.

If the water temps fell for the next month like they have the last few weeks we'd soon be icebound north of Cape Hatteras.

Tuesday we had the first few spiny dog sharks come over the rail. Wednesday.. Dogged up! They pushed us off a couple spots.

Veterans Day. Splendid. Worked for 'em at first, moved a couple times ~ picking away. Decent start. Good weather.

Set up again. 'Bout an hour later I told my deckhands that this was what fall fishing should be like.

The jumbo fluke in the last report appear to have been a grand finale. Still see a couple a day..

Sea bass much more cooperative this week, but keep in mind that abundance is fairly low to begin with. What's out there is biting!

At least it was a fast mover and weakened. Early Saturday morning Noel's remnant winds topped out at 43 knots, seas at 17 feet.

Incredibly, we weren't too far from the buoy that sends that data on Sunday.

Everyday we got our lines in the water was great. Um well, that is we had one really fine day on the water and 6 weather cancellations.

Getting caught up on maintenance is one thing, Q-tip cleaning & oiling the inside of the socket heads...

There's a handful of sea bass with them. Even some sea bass inside 'em. 'Fish eat fish' world out there.

Did have a few decent shots of 'em this week though. After last week's doom and despair report, written Sunday evening, we had two of the best days this fall. Yup, Monday and Tuesday some folks pushed into the upper teens.

Dogoned easterly winds keep pushing more warm water in. The water temp was 75 degrees outside the inlet and 73 degrees 20 miles out today.

Flounder continue to be the target species. I've tried focusing on sea bass with less than lukewarm results. Nick a few ~and they seem to be getting thicker on the sounder~ but derned if I can get a sustained bite.

Earlier in the week we had a fantastic run of tool boxes, spare parts, soiled rags and worn-out scrub brushes.

It's the yachting life. Bad weather -just on the edge- not a hurricane or even a decent Nor'easter, but a slightly too heavy flow of northerly wind kept us in for 5 days. Rats.

All in all though, it strikes me that folks are pretty dogoned happy with flounder around the rail - and usually we get to go nick some hardheads too.

Back to working for 'em on Saturday. Still, it really was awesome to see first time anglers bowed up on nice flatties ~ even keeper doubles.

Although there's still precious few sea bass to be had; contrarian anglers were rewarded this week. At least the ones that had agreeable weather! Wednesday Capt. Tucker had the helm and stopped on a nice mess of croakers (aka hardheads) before going offshore.

Suntan lotion retailers and fishers didn't do so hot last week. Moderate north-east winds, cloudy skies and occasional rain put a damper on the fishing nearly all week.
